When it blows moderately, the southerly wind behaves just like an impressionist artist: it borrows from the setting Sun this wide array of colors ranging from pale yellow to orange-red, then deposites them in small contrasted touches on nebulosities that it has previously disseminated. There follows this striking, this flamboyant show pictured from the medieval village of Puycelsi located at the edge of the Gresigne forest in Tarn.

In the past, several painters have echoed spectacular sunsets. Such as William Turner (1775-1851), considered as the British lightpainter. A recent study showed that the glowing tones used by Turner are particularly revealing of the ash and the gases emitted during the three major volcanic eruptions (in Indonesia in 1815, in the Philippines in 1831 and in Nicaragua in 1835) of which he was contemporaneous.
