Exhibition « From the Moon to the Sun »

Exhibition « From the Moon to the Sun »

August 1 - 15, 2024 at the GET cultural center in Revel, Occitania, France

After orbiting the Earth (1961) and then landing on the Moon (1969), mankind set out to explore our Sun and then the planets of our Solar System with probes and robot explorers.

This exhibition, entitled « From the Moon to the Sun », features archive images from the Apollo missions (1961 - 1972), as well as the most recent pictures of our Sun acquired by NASA's Parker Solar Probe and ESA's Solar Orbiter probes. Exceptionally, the model of NASA's Perseverance rover, designed by CNES and on loan from IRAP (Institut de Recherche en Astrophysique et Planétologie in Toulouse), was presented to the public in Revel.

For the duration of the exhibition, these photographs of the Moon and the Sun, the Perseverance rover model as well, mingled with metal sculptures designed by artist Cha Môkeur. The ensemble has been harmoniously arranged by Gilou Estève-Delprat, a naive painter from Revel.

Here below are a few snapshots of this exhibition :

The Sun exhibition

This exhibition dedicated to our Sun was designed by Frédéric Pitout, astronomer at IRAP / Observatoire Midi Pyrénées (CNES, CNRS, Université Toulouse III - Paul Sabatier), Emma Carenini, professor of philosophy, author of Soleil : mythes, histoire et sociétés (Ed. Le Pommier, 2022) and Guillaume Marmin, visual artist exploring the links between light, sound and space, as part of the 2023 edition of the « Lumières sur le Quai » festival in Toulouse.

The Apollo missions exhibition

The photographic sequence below is made up of ten iconic NASA shots taken during the various Apollo missions: the lift-off of a Saturn V rocket, an Earthrise observed from lunar orbit, man's first step on the Moon, the collection of lunar regolith samples, the very first turns of the wheels of a planetary rover, the opening of the parachutes on the return to Earth, the recovery of the Apollo capsule and its crew on the high seas.

Model of the Perseverance rover

This model of NASA's Perseverance rover, designed by CNES, was exceptionally loaned by IRAP's « Martians » team, led by Sylvestre Maurice. It was one of the highlights of this magnificent exhibition.
